PA - Cert Surg Tech (Outpt) - Days - Mount Nittany, State College - Surgical Technologist for OUTPATIENT Surgery Center --- Mon-Fri -- Day Shift -- ONLY 8 HR shifts 10 and 12 hours shift are not an option for this positionMust be hold a current surg tech certification1 Appliesknowledge of the basic concepts necessary for the performance of the dutiesexpected of the surgical technician.a Appliesknowledge of normal and pathologic anatomy and physiology and of the actions ofpharmacologic agents.i Identifiesmedications and solutions by name dosage and expiration date with aregistered nurse.ii Identifiesmedications and solution by name and dosage when handing medication to surgeon.b Appliesthe principles of asepsis and sterile technique in a knowledgeable manner toprovide optimal patient care. i Establishesand maintains a sterile field.ii Performsgowning gloving and surgical scrubbing according to medical center policy.iii Assistswith skin preparation and draping of patient.iv Assistswith the care preparation and maintenance of sterile and unsterile supplies.c Understandsthe services provided to the patient in relation to their restoration ofhealth.d Preparesand possesses knowledge of the specific uses of all equipment and supplies usedfor surgical procedures.i Demonstratesknowledge care maintenance and storage of special instruments and equipment.ii Checkssutures and supplies and assists with the case set-up.iii Updatessurgeons' preference lists.e Differentiatessterilization methods required for specific instruments and equipment.i Cleansor directs the cleaning and sterilizing of contaminated instruments equipmentand supplies as necessary.ii Cleansand checks sterilizing apparatus according to safety plan for care ofsterilizers. Operates sterilizer safelyand documents accurately.f Demonstratesknowledge of the progress of specific surgical procedures and displaysdexterity in the use of the required instrumentation.i Demonstratesorganization efficiency and speed in setting up a sterile field.ii Performssharps sponge and instrument counts.g Anticipatesthe needs of the surgeon in order to expedite the procedure thus minimizingthe patient's exposure to surgical and anesthetic stress.h Identifiesemergency situations and uses sound judgment in instituting establishedprocedures to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner.i Adheresto Standard Precautions Policy Medical Center Infection Control PolicyMedical Center and Surgery Center Policies and Procedures.
